Letter Frequency Analyzer

Counts how often each letter A-Z appears in your text and charts the percentages.

Counts every occurrence of each letter from A to Z in your text and shows how often each one shows up as a percentage, laid out in a horizontal bar chart and a detailed table. Useful for linguistic analysis, cracking cryptograms and ciphers, and studying typing patterns.

FAQ

Do spaces and numbers count toward the percentages?
No. Total character and space counts are reported in the stats, but the frequency percentages are calculated using only the letters A-Z.
Are uppercase and lowercase counted separately?
Turn case sensitivity on and 'A' and 'a' are tallied as two separate letters. Turn it off and they're merged, displayed and totaled as uppercase.
Can this tool help me crack a substitution cipher, like a Caesar cipher?
Yes. English letters follow a fairly consistent statistical frequency pattern (E, T, and A are the most common), so comparing which letters appear most often in your ciphertext against that standard pattern gives you real clues about which letter was swapped for which. This is a classic technique used when learning to break simple substitution ciphers.
