Determine wind force levels using the international Beaufort Wind Scale. Input speeds in m/s, km/h, knots, or mph to map them to scale steps 0 (Calm) through 12 (Hurricane) with corresponding land/sea descriptors.

How to use

  1. Input your wind speed in m/s, km/h, knots, or mph.
  2. The values will convert and highlight the corresponding Beaufort scale level instantly.
  3. Read the physical descriptors for land and sea conditions to evaluate the wind force.

FAQ

Who created the Beaufort scale?
It was developed in 1805 by Sir Francis Beaufort, a British Royal Navy officer, to standardize wind descriptions for sailing vessel navigation. It was later adopted globally by the WMO.
What defines a hurricane-force wind on the Beaufort scale?
A hurricane corresponds to Level 12 (winds >= 32.7 m/s, 118 km/h, or 64 knots). It causes severe devastation on land and turns the sea surface completely white.
