Enter your current age, target retirement age, expected living costs, inflation rate, and investment return, and this calculator works out the total nest egg you'll need at retirement, how far your current assets fall short, and the monthly savings required to close that gap. It also runs a year-by-year simulation showing when your money would run out, so you can see exactly where your retirement plan stands. FAQ
- Why does inflation get factored in?
- Your living costs at retirement will be higher than they are today by however much prices rise, so the calculator inflates your present-day expenses forward to your retirement year to find the amount you'll actually need.
- Is the same investment return used before and after retirement?
- Yes. The average annual return you enter is applied both to the growth of your assets before retirement and to whatever remains invested as you draw it down afterward.
- Are the amounts I enter stored anywhere?
- No. Every calculation happens inside your browser, and nothing is transmitted or saved.
