Portfolio Rebalancing Calculator

Calculate how much to buy or sell to hit your target allocation

Enter the current value and target allocation of each holding you own — stocks, bonds, cash, and more — and this calculator works out exactly how much of each you need to buy or sell to get back to your target weights. You can also factor in new money you plan to contribute, which makes it handy for individual investors who review their asset allocation on a regular schedule. Every amount you type stays in your browser and is never sent to a server.

How to use

  1. Enter each holding's name, current value, and target allocation (%) on its own row.
  2. If you're adding new money, enter the amount in the "New Contribution" field.
  3. Check that your target allocations add up to 100% (adjust them if you see a warning), and add or remove holdings until the mix looks right.
  4. Review the buy/sell amount for each holding and click "Copy Rebalancing Plan" to copy the results.

FAQ

What happens if my target allocations don't add up to 100%?
You'll see a warning, but the calculator still runs the numbers. For an accurate rebalance, though, we recommend getting your targets to add up to exactly 100%.
How is a new contribution factored in?
The calculator adds your new contribution to your current total portfolio value, then applies your target allocations to that combined figure. That way it also tells you how much of the new money should go into each holding.
Is the portfolio information I enter saved or transmitted anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser — nothing is sent to a server or stored.
