This is a 20-item self-assessment based on the CES-D (Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale). Answer how often you felt each way over the past week, and get an instant total score from 0 to 60 along with a severity level from normal to severe. All scoring happens locally in your browser, with nothing sent to a server, so you can check in privately.
How to use
- Read through each of the 20 statements and recall how often you felt that way in the past week.
- For each item, pick one option: rarely, sometimes, often, or most of the time.
- Once all 20 items are answered, your total score (0-60) and depression level update automatically at the top.
- Use the result as a guide, and consider talking to someone you trust or a mental health professional if the score is elevated.
FAQ
- Can this test diagnose depression?
- No. The CES-D is a self-report screening tool meant to gauge depressive tendencies, not a substitute for a clinical diagnosis. If your score is high, consider consulting a mental health professional.
- Are my answers saved or sent anywhere?
- No. All scoring is done entirely in your browser and nothing is transmitted or stored on a server.
- How is the score calculated?
- Each item is scored 0-3, and four positively-worded items (questions 4, 8, 12, and 16) are reverse-scored. A total of 15 or below is normal, 16-20 is mild, 21-24 is moderate, and 25 or above is classified as severe.
