FAQ

What's the standard pour-over ratio?
1:16 — 320ml of water for 20g of coffee — is the classic Gold Cup Standard, widely considered the most balanced ratio.
How does the ratio affect flavor? Is a lower number like 1:15 different from 1:17?
A lower ratio like 1:15 uses relatively less water, giving a stronger, fuller-bodied cup. A higher ratio like 1:17 uses more water for a lighter, brighter, more acidic cup.
Why is the blooming water calculated separately?
Blooming typically uses about twice the coffee's weight in water to release trapped gas, and that amount counts toward your total. Subtracting it first is what keeps the first and second pour amounts accurate.
