FAQ
- It says there are no subtitles.
- That video genuinely has none. If the uploader added no captions and YouTube produced no auto-generated track, there is nothing to fetch. This is common on music-only clips and very short videos.
- What is different about 'auto-generated'?
- It was produced by YouTube's speech recognition rather than written by a person. Expect errors around unclear speech, names and technical terms. If a manual track exists in the same language it will be noticeably more accurate. The list marks which is which.
- What kind of translation is this?
- It is YouTube's own automatic translation — we do not translate anything ourselves. If the source track is auto-generated, recognition errors carry straight into the translation, so quality varies.
- SRT, VTT or TXT?
- SRT is the safest choice for video editors and players. VTT is for video embedded on web pages. TXT, with no timestamps, is best when you only want the words.
- Do private or age-restricted videos work?
- No. Only public videos anyone can watch without logging in.
- Can I use the subtitles freely?
- Copyright stays with the creator. Use them only for personal, lawful purposes such as your own uploads or content you have permission to save; redistributing them or putting them into other content needs separate permission.
